Rheni is a materials consultant and part of Tri-Art's product development team, as well as a practicing visual artist and instructor, and founder of the Tri-Art Acrylic Education Program. She has a unique and thorough understanding of the material from both the painters and manufacturers point of view. In February 2005, Watson-Guptill published her book The New Acrylics, an in-depth look at the character and application possibilities of artist acrylic paints.

"The original working title for my book was 'Jazzing the modern medium', because my experience and approach to acrylics was and continues to be about improvisation. Stretching and splattering it outside the bounds of the formal and the normal."
