Shirley Mancino

Shirley’s passion for life, people and travel is evident in her dramatic/colourful paintings. Working from nature towards abstraction, her mission is to retain the mystery and leave something to the viewers’ imagination. “On the road, I carry only watercolours and complete numerous small figurative paintings. In my studio. I become much bolder and more experimental with mixed media. I frequent the local dump to find interesting materials to recycle and use in my work: bubble wrap, spackle, eggshells, sand, sponges, newsprint, plastic bags and much more. I believe that my soul “sings” when I work abstractly. I always aim for abstract paintings and push myself to stay loose and spontaneous.

Shirley has taught adults for more than 30 years. She holds a Masters Degree in Adult Education, at the University of Toronto (OISE) and completed 4 years training at the Ontario College of Art. A life long learner, she has continued her studies at the Haliburton School of Fine Arts, Seneca & George Brown Colleges and at the Belles Artes Institute in San Miguel d'Allende, Mexico.

Shirley is much sought after art instructor, juror and art critic. She teaches art workshops in her home gallery (see www.shirleymancino.com) and to art associations throughout North America. "She is one of the few good artists who can also teach what they do," says a former adult instructor and one of her art students. She shows her work in numerous Ontario galleries and at exhibitions She has won many awards for her paintings.
