Timothy Wilson Hoey

"Art neither begins nor ends on the canvas. It is up to the artist to be both creative and in some ways destructive, to push the medium, the concept and indeed themselves, thereby creating a brief snapshot of the creative process. It is this risk or angst which lends honesty to the work itself."
Years of experimentation with the reactions of his mediums and materials, have resulted in Timothy's layered pieces and signature finishes. His paintings have been described as magnetic and organic, and it is Timothy's unorthodox methods of chemical reaction, layering in of pigments and metals, and brilliant glazes, that make his paintings so compelling.
"You want to walk through them, push away the branches and trees, to get to the light, reach for the light." Seka Owen, Canadian Expressionist Painter
Primarily self-taught, he was heavily influenced by the perspectives and styles of Robin Skelton and the Limners, as well as Eric Rhode. It has been said that "one finds what one finds by happenstance", this however was not the case with Timothy's creative process. He has lived the life of an artist since the start. His first solo show at seventeen served as a catalyst to drive his creativity down many paths, painter, writer, musician, tattooist, photographer, teacher and mentor to his students. Timothy now finds balance between time spent with his young family and continued exploration and experimentation in his studio. www.timothyhoey.com
