Tri-Art PRESS RELEASE, September 5th 2011
Welcome Back students, faculty and staff
The start of a new school year it always a crazy and exciting time for everyone. To help get back into the swing of things here in Kingston ON, we've put together some art materials shopping tips....because creating sound art works without sacrificing quality is all about knowing your art materials!
Your Acrylic Paint Shopping List can include a selection from the best from all Tri-Art lines which will help save you money ::
Art Noise Gesso and Sludge Gesso are economy gesso's - inexpensive and yet flexible, non-cracking and a toothy ground for all supports (3 coats are recommended for economy gesso's). A good quality gesso can expand your options for using alternative surfaces, ie. masonite, mat board scraps, coloured papers, heavy weight mixed media/watercolour papers. Also, check out yupo or terraskin which are eco-alternative surfaces that work very well with acrylics. *tip :: paper works can be mounted on boards with Gel Medium for final presentation!
Solucryl is a re-soluable acrylic paint that offers many new possibilities for an acrylic paint. All you need is the primary colours to make the perfect palette including vivid secondary colours. Solucryl functions as an acrylic (adding in the permanent medium), watercolor, tempera, poster and gouache paint. Create wild collages, incredible staining effects, gorgeous layering results on canvas, make your own scratchboards, monoprints and more.
'Wallack's Student' Burnt Umber - for all your underpainting work.
'Wallack's Xtra' Gel Medium and Polymer Medium Gloss are essential. Using mediums and working up from thin washes to impasto helps to reduce the amount of paint you use and save you money!
'Wallack's Xtra' *the perfect palette* :: Phthalo Blue, Primary Cyan, Cad Yellow Light Hue, Primary Yellow, Napthol Red, Primary Magenta, Hookers Green, Dioxazine Violet, Yellow Ochre, Carbon Black, Payne's Grey, Titanium White, Unbleached Titanium.
For final glazes, check out Tri-Art's Finest Quality line (High Viscosity or Liquid Acrylics) for unique and modern transparent colours. For example :: Transparent Brown, Indian Yellow, Quinacridone Magenta, Green Gold, Golden Orange, Transparent Pyrrolle Red, Transparent Permanent Orange.
Our Finest Quality line (High Viscosity or Liquid Acrylics) also offers beautiful metallics such as Iridescent Copper and Gold Deep. Or try Interference colours as a brilliant accent over top of dark colours. *tip :: try Spectral Deep Gold to add some 'bling' and shine to your works!
Tri-Art's Finest Quality Mediums include Modeling paste, Nepheline Gels, Self-Leveling Gel, and Dry Media Ground. These unique mediums provide interesting texture that will enhance any acrylic painting.
Sludge is a recycled paint product we make in the factory twice a year. Every batch is unique, usually neutral in colour, and is an inexpensive addition to your paintbox that can be used as a coloured ground, or to mix in with your acrylic paints.
Our non-stick palette is the only only palette you'll ever need. Use the peeled-off leftover paint for collage and texturing, or to create acrylic gel transfers and acrylic skins! An economical and environmental alternative to disposable, metal, wood or regular plastic palettes.
'The New Acrylics' and 'The New Acrylics Essential Sourcebook' are must-have's for any acrylic painter's studio library. You'll find yourself referencing them often, for both inspiration and up to date information!
