Product information

Pigment Description

Ultramarine Blue Classic is the original 'iconic' blue pigment, literally. Gracing the blue robes of the Madonna since the 14th century, this velvety, matte, red-shade blue once enjoyed a price higher than gold. This modern synthetic version of the pigment has been popular since the mid-nineteenth century. Use as a glaze to bring out its signature violet undertone, or as a mixing compliment.

Product Description

Ultramarine Blue Classic is part of Tri-Art High Viscosity Professional Acrylic Paint, a heavy body acrylic with a thick, buttery consistency that holds brushstrokes and palette-knife texture. Built with high pigment loading and a fine grind, it stays bold and clean for impasto, scumbling, and confident brushwork.

Pigment profile: Single pigment colour (PB29). Bias: Warm. Pigment family: Mineral. Transparent handling, excellent for glazing, optical layering, and deep colour mixes. Medium tinting strength, mixes predictably across a wide range of palettes. Low to non-staining, forgiving in layered work and easier to lift while wet. Lightfastness rating: 4. Sheen: Matte. Granulating pigment character, can show beautiful texture and break in thin passages.
