Ivory black (bone black) is a staple of all painters palettes. More transparent and less overpower than other black pigments, Ivory black is an ideal black for mixing and glazing. Our Ivory Black is slightly warmer in shade than our other blacks, with a yellow leaning undertone. Please note this is an authentic bone black made from animal products but contains no ivory.

Built with high pigment loading and a fine grind, it stays bold and clean for impasto, scumbling, and confident brushwork.

Low tinting strength, build your mixtures gradually for softer shifts. Low to non-staining, forgiving in layered work and easier to lift while wet. Lightfastness rating: 4. Sheen: Semi-gloss. Granulating pigment character, can show beautiful texture and break in thin passages.
