Pigment Description

Synthetic red oxide is the modern update to Burnt Sienna for the classical painter. The intensity of this earth red is unmatched by natural earth pigments that tend to be more brown. Red Oxide leans more towards blue-red than our Burnt Sienna. Try Red Oxide in place of Burnt Sienna as a warm mixing compliment in limited, portrait and landscape palettes.

So far I’m impressed

I was anxious to try this paint because most of my sources for heavy body acrylic paint are expensive, sometimes require shipping and duty, and sometimes are out of popular hues in the size I need. So far, this paint has performed well. A bit difficult to unscrew the jar lid at times but the paint itself is great!

Modern blue shade mix problem

During my selection between the classic and the "new" modern Ultramarine, I selected modern because it seemed more vibrant than the classic in the website. But what the site colour analysis failed to do is not indicating how the colours affect other colours during mixing. Now, I have a big problem.
Not only is the colour vibrant, which it is good, but the hue is in the red shade and its value is lighter than the classic Ultramarine.
My current painting is based on the classic blue-which is in green shade and darker in value. NOw no matter How I mix the modern blue I can not colour match my current blue, and all its saturated shades and tints in the canvas. NOw , My grey shades of blue are off value-aka out wack!
Had I known this problem if was stipulated on the site, I would picked the classic. Right now I only used .5 percent of the tube, and because of this problem my work is on hold . Let me know if I can exchange this item for the classic Ultramarine. If yes I will send you this modern blue tube back for an exchange. If not , let me know, so I can go to buy some golden Ultramarine blue (green shade) -as indicated it all of golden tubes somewhere else, because I'm in Markham and not driving all the way to Kingston nor ship courier for small tube of paint. Let me know asap, as I need to finish my work; everything is on hold because this modern blue dilemma.

Thank you
